This year, Theatre Royal Sydney proudly marks the 50th anniversary of its current venue on King Street, a milestone that honours a legacy of performance, architecture, and community in the heart of the city.
As celebrations continue, earlier this week, theatre staff were delighted to welcome the Hon. John Graham MLC, Minister for the Arts, and the Rt Hon. Clover Moore AO, Lord Mayor of Sydney, alongside pivotal contributors to the Theatre Royal’s ongoing success, including former Minister for the Arts Don Harwin, Dexus, and RBC Capital Markets.

The day also highlighted the significant economic and cultural impact Theatre Royal Sydney has delivered over five decades including driving visitation to the CBD, supporting local businesses, and reinforcing Sydney’s reputation as a global destination for world-class live performance.
“Reaching the 50-year mark is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the vision, perseverance and creativity of everyone who has engaged with Theatre Royal Sydney. We stand on the shoulders of dramas, musicals and audiences which have walked through its doors. Our goal is to ensure this venue continues to thrive and deliver world-class performance for decades to come,” says Tim McFarlane, Executive Chairman of Trafalgar Entertainment Asia-Pacific.
The venue is currently displaying an array of ephemera from the past 50 years and the former Royal, along with some recent donations including pointe shoes worn by Maree Johnson in The Phantom of the Opera (1993-1996) and behind-the-scenes images and costume bibles from the Australian Premiere of CATS the Musical.

A special thank you to our friends at The International Sydney (The Point*) for catering and our wonderful theatre team in delivering another successful event.
